How Do I Start Beekeeping?
Starting beekeeping can feel overwhelming, but it doesn't have to be. The best first step is learning what beekeeping really involves before investing in bees or equipment.
Learn the Basics:
Whether you prefer learning in person or online, we offer two great ways to begin your beekeeping journey.
Seasonal Hands-On Introduction to Beekeeping Workshops
Our seasonal workshops combine classroom instruction with a live hive inspection, giving you a realistic introduction to beekeeping. You'll learn how a colony functions, what equipment you'll need, the time and financial commitment involved, and what to expect as a first-year beekeeper. Then you'll suit up in protective bee suits and inspect a live hive alongside KC Bee Lady.
Online Introduction to Beekeeping Course
Can't attend a workshop? Our online course allows you to learn at your own pace whenever it's convenient for you. It's a great way to build a strong foundation before getting your first bees.
Reserve Your Bees:
Once you've decided beekeeping is right for you, you'll be ready to reserve your bees for the upcoming spring season. You can reserve your bees during one of our seasonal workshops or place your order online once bee sales become available.
Continue Learning:
Every beekeeper starts somewhere. Our goal is simply to give you the knowledge and confidence to get started.
As your beekeeping journey continues, additional educational resources are available to help you build your skills and confidence. Be sure to explore our online classes as you continue learning and growing as a beekeeper.
